DR. ANDREW BUTLER PhD BSc
Senior Environmental Scientist

Andrew has over 17 years of postdoctoral experience as a soil and environmental scientist working in consultancy, research and development, and land resource development in Australia, SE Asia, Europe and the Middle East. He has particular expertise in environmental chemistry and has applied this knowledge to soil and water quality assessment and monitoring across a diverse range of situations, from investigating the impacts of acid mine drainage to determining the cause of rehabilitation failure. Another field in which Andrew has considerable experience is that of revegetation, he has applied this knowledge to restored landfill sites, contaminated land, and civil engineering sites. Andrew has also been involved in the application of wastes or waste derived products to land.

Wastes have included dredged material, industrial effluent, water treatment wastes and waste derived composts. For the past 7 years, Andrew has been increasingly involved in the mining sector carrying out baseline environmental assessments for new or expanding projects, environmental monitoring and reporting, environmental auditing, and EMS development and implementation.

Andrew has more than 12 years’ project management experience and has provided advice on soil and environmental management to clients in a range of industries. Andrew was amongst the first Certified Environmental Practitioners to be registered by the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand (Registration No. 40). Andrew is a member of the Technical Committee for the Acid Sulfate Soils Laboratory Methods Guidelines and his technical contribution has been acknowledged in Version 2.1 of the Guidelines published in June 2004.
