Bec has more than eight years experience in the fields of plant and soil science. She has recently completed a PhD in soil biogeochemistry examining nutrient dynamics in riparian and stream communities in northern Australia (the Pilbara). Previously, she completed her honours research on soil seed banks in the Simpson Desert of south-west Queensland. She has presented her work at domestic and international conferences, and has published in the Journal of Arid Environments and Soil Biology and Biochemistry.
In her consulting experience, Bec has managed and completed projects for government, infrastructure and mining clients, and land developers. She has undertaken numerous botanical surveys and fauna habitat assessments in many regions of Australia. Her soils work has encompassed many preliminary site investigations, and also acid sulphate soils assessments. Where required, she has acted as site environmental officer to provide multi-disciplinary advice to clients.
Bec’s skills include project management, botanical surveys and taxonomy, contaminated land investigations, acid sulphate soils assessments, soil chemistry, fauna habitat assessments, and arid/semi-arid zone ecology. She is a committee member of the Environment Institute of Australia & New Zealand (EIANZ) and a member of the Australian Institute of Soil Science Inc. (ASSSI).
