Tim Perry graduated from University of New England (NSW) with an Honours degree in Applied Science. His honours thesis investigated weed invasion in sub-tropical forests, and he continues to have a keen interest in weed ecology and management. Tim has worked with numerous state and federal government agencies gaining broad experience in tropical and sub-tropical flora and fauna, and has developed particular expertise in wetland ecology.

He co-authored the Queensland chapter of A Directory of Important Wetlands in Australia for the Australian Nature Conservation Agency (now Environment Australia). He played a senior role in a large-scale survey and analysis of priorities for the protection of wetlands and remnant vegetation in the northern Brigalow Belt Bioregion, for Queensland Environmental Protection Agency. He has played a major role in the development of management plans and guidelines for wetlands associated with the Bowling Green Bay Ramsar site, including Wongaloo pastoral property and the Cungulla interdunal wetland system.

Tim has been associated with the Great Barrier Reef Coastal Wetlands Protection Programme since its inception, both as an employee of the Queensland Environmental Protection Agency and as a private consultant. He has been a member of the Expert Technical Group developing a Decision Support System for the selection of priority wetlands in the GBR catchments and a member of the team developing a methodology for identifying and mapping hydrological and biophysical connectivity of natural wetlands in Queensland.

Tim’s skills include wetlands inventory; wetland ecology, landscape ecology; restoration ecology; natural resources management and land and vegetation mapping.
