Annabelle completed a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology with a minor in Environmental Chemistry, graduating with Distinction in 2021. She then completed a Master of Science majoring in Marine Biology in 2023. Throughout her graduate studies, Annabelle undertook a thesis project conducting research on the distribution and characterisation of microplastics in sediments and shrimp species in South Carolina estuaries, USA. Additionally, as a research assistant, she gained techniques in field sampling, collection, data processing and analysis and became adept at boat handling. Annabelle became proficient in GIS spatial analysis, statistical analysis using R programming, water, sediment and biological quality assessments and scientific report writing.
Throughout her professional and academic career, Annabelle has undertaken a variety of field work, such as:
- biology: species collection and index measurements via trawling, longlining, electrofishing, phytoplankton nets
- earth: sediment quality sampling using a Young grab, and water quality sampling using YSI probes, CTD instruments, Secchi disc, and Van Dorn bottles
- botany: plant health and abundance measurements.
